Cedarbrook Nurses Join SEIU Healthcare PA
Nearly 200 nurses at Cedarbrook Nursing Homes in Allentown and Fountain Hill voted by a landslide to join us in SEIU Healthcare. The nurses formed their union for an adequate staffing
level and the highest quality of care for the residents; a first-class
program to recruit and retain nurses; and a stronger voice in the
decisions that impact the care residents receive.
County
Executive Don Cunningham agreed to "neutrality" in the organizing
campaign - agreeing not to oppose the nurses' efforts to form a union.
“This is an incredible
victory not only for all the nurses at Cedarbrook but also for our
residents. We now have one voice to advocate for improved care for our
residents,” said Peggy Nye, LPN. “We are excited about the opportunity to make our nursing home a better place to work and receive long-term care.”
While announcing the results of the vote, LaVerne Chapman, LPN, repeated a
mantra she said kept up her faith that one day all the nurses would
come together to form a union. “United we stand. With a union, our union, we will never have to stand alone.
We shall speak and be heard. We shall stand and be seen.”
