Altoona Regional Health System Nurses Win First Contract!
The nurses at Altoona Regional Health System have won their first
union contract. Nurses voted April 9th on a tentative agreement reached
with management late the week before.
95% of the nurses voted in favor of the agreement
which includes:
- Raises ranging between 16% and 26% over the next 21 months to help attract and retain dedicated nurses.
- Significant limitations on mandatory overtime.
- Joint committees between nurses and hospital management to address patient care and staffing issues.
- Affordable health care and retirement security plans.
- Strong seniority rights that promote fair treatment.
- Improved scheduling procedures.
The nurses work at Altoona Regional Hospital and Bon Secours Hospital, part of the Altoona Regional Health System. Altoona nurses first voted to form their union in late May of 2007. Together they have secured a strong voice in the future of their hospital and taken great strides to improve care for their community.
