Home Care Workers in Southwestern Pennsylvania Celebrate New Contract!

Working together with their consumers and advocates at TRI-County Patriots for Independent Living, SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania home care workers won their contract, and their first-ever health care benefits!

Home care work is underfunded across our Commonwealth, with most money going to nursing homes which cost three times as much as home care.  This underfunding results in poverty wages and no benefits for most of the home care workforce –- conditions that make for workforce instability that undermines quality services.  Recognizing their common stake in improving working conditions, attendants and their employers lobbied elected leaders –- and won the grant that funds these new benefits!

Most long term care is publicly funded.  That’s why SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania members, and the people they serve, are making sure that elected leaders officials are educated about quality care and quality jobs.  Improvements like those won by TRIPIL workers are why thousands of SEIU Healthcare PA members are part of our political action program, that works for healthcare workers and their communities and families.  Congratulations to our TRIPIL members!
