Our union is a democratic organization. Members hold leadership positions at every level of our union and are elected by our co-workers.
Elections are currently being held for District Officers and Executive Board members. Chapter officers, delegates and work area leaders are also being elected in all chapters not currently in negotiations or with contracts expiring this year.
Chapters in negotiations or with contracts expiring this year will elect Chapter Officers, Delegates, and Work Area Leaders within 3 months following the negotiation of their contract. Click here for a list of these chapters.
Description of Elected Positions:
Chapter leaders -including officers, delegates and work area leaders - are responsible for overseeing the functioning of the union at a particular worksite. This includes welcoming and orienting new members, conducting labor-management meetings, maintaining chapter accounts, and communicating the union's programs to all members in the chapter.
Executive board members meet 6 times a year to oversee the overall business of the union including the union's budget and finances, recommending changes to the unions constitution and by-laws, and making decisions about the union's programs.
District officers oversee the statewide functioning of the union on a day-to-day basis and are full-time positions. Responsibilities include implementing the union's programs, supervising staff, and supporting chapter leaders.
All elected leaders are required to attend the union's Leadership Assembly.
Nominating petitions and Leadership Commitment Contracts are available for download in the purple box to the right. They must be mailed into the office and postmarked by March 7th. If only one candidate is nominated for any particular position, he/she shall be considered to have been elected without further procedures. If more than one candidate is nominated for any statewide position a mail ballot election will be held. In the case of chapter leaders, if more than one candidate is nominated, an election will be held at a chapter meeting held in the month of May.
